Who will benefit?
As a community business we will work together with members to decide our priorities and activities. Here is a sample of the wide range of groups from the Forest of Dean - and Gloucestershire - that would benefit from our work.
· Schools (both primary and secondary)
· Colleges and universities
· Youth groups
· Apprentice programmes
· Company management teams
· Arts and crafts
· Food growers and suppliers
· Charities
· Special needs
· Local authority
· Families and friends
· NHS and health services
· Veterans
· Emergency services
· Environmental groups
The Wilderness Centre currently hosts many organisations - totalling around 3000 people annually - from the Forest of Dean and wider Gloucestershire, providing important services, activities and opportunities for the community. This is at risk if we fail to secure a purchase by a community business, i.e. Wylderne Bioregioning.
Recognising the Wilderness Centre’s role in the community, the land of the Wilderness Centre was registered by Forest of Dean District Council as an Asset of Community Value in September 2024.
Wylderne Bioregioning will provide growth and generative opportunities for the community, develop skills and well-being for young people, preserve natural spaces and community access, and offer long-term stability for the community.
